Leidens rit / Leiden ride

english For English please scroll down.

'Excuse me, England is that way ?'

english  Roef and Ed were visiting Alphen aan de Rijn, a nice opportunity to ride with the group again.

We should meet at 12:00 in Leiden for a ride.

As dry as it was during shopping in the early morning hours, so moist it was when pushing the Quest out of the house.
I was already late due to the shopping (somebody has to do it, but why me ?), so I didn't have the courage to call and cancel the ride.

It wasn't raining that hard, so put the pedal to the meta ... , euh, carbon that is.

I planned to meet them just before Leiden. But unfortunately when i reached Leiden they were already drinking thea at Maaike's place.

While I was searching for the adress in leiden it starts to rain much more.
Taking shelter under a tunnel and asking some locals for the right direction.
And before I could mount the foam cover, the rain was just a drizzle.

After some minor searching I managed to get to the meeting place.

We enjoyed a hot cup of tea, a hearty soup and a nice piece of bread.

Maaike took us through Leiden, in the direction of the coast.
Velomobile riding in the city of Leiden is quite difficult, with all those narrow bicycle paths and tight corners. (well, I'm used to broad bicycle paths and wide corners)
But soon the bicycle paths are getting wider and we can start to enjoy our ride.

Riding through the dunes at Meyendel

It stops raining and even some sunshine start to peer through the clouds.

'Excuse me, England is that way ?'
Koffiestop at Meyendel with enough attention for the Velomobiles.
That's no surprise with a group containing a Strada, Quest XS, Quest, Quattrovelo and a recumbent with understeer (a Nazca, i presume ?)
'Isn't that dangerous ?'
'No, certainly not, it is very safe. Statisticly speaking most accidents happens in and around the house, so the more I go out with the Quest, the safer I will be.'
So, that will keep them thinking, ghegheghe.

Marco and his Quattrovelo
After a nice ride through the dunes, the woods and polders the time has come to say goodbye.
At Stompwijk I go south in the direction of Rotterdam while Roef, Ed, Marco and Maaike go north back to Alphen.

Maaike, thanx for the tasty lunch and magnificent ride !
